I feel as though I should spread the word for all those who will listen. I am a senior marketing major at USF in Tampa, FL. and have been doing some research on the power of positive thinking. I recently began reading "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind" by T. Harv Eker and I read the book from cover to cover in two days, I couldn't stop! The beauty of the book is that it applies to all facets in your life, not just money but everything you do everyday. After reading his book I realized that I began to see life as an opportunity and that I will be able to create my own destiny as long as I continue to think positively and apply the basic principles that he discussed in the book.
The major piece of information I got out of Eker's book was that negative thinking is infectious and spreads like a virus. This is what really got me, being a college student that is graduating in the near future I have seen many friends graduate and get "real jobs" and they turned into totally different people then the ones I knew in our carefree college days. They had become more cynical, negative and moody. I didn't realize how this affected me until reading this book, I began adopting their negative attitudes without even knowing it!
After reading this book I began flipping my negative thoughts into positive thoughts and let me tell you this may have been the smartest thing I have ever done in my life. It is truly astounding that by simply rearranging your thoughts and squeezing the negativity out of them and injecting positive ideas into them how your life changes, and fast!
Harv states that you should when faced with a situation that causes anger, frustration, or any other negative emotion you should repeat the phrase "mini-me, mini-me" (I think of Austin Powers everytime) and this will trigger in your mind that you are letting a small, insignificant issue get the best of you. e.g., someone cuts you off while driving. Why would you want to waste any time or energy on this inconsiderate person, you are worth more than that person (perhaps not financially, yet...) and by allowing them to create anger in your mind you have sunk to their level. If you are on an emotional level of a 8 and this person is a 4 then you reduced your emotional level 4 points to their level and will now have to work your way back up to 8. It is not worth it to allow insignificant events rule your life, if you allow those events to rule your life you will wake up one day and wonder what happened to your life.
"It takes but one thought to transform a person, take care in selecting your emotion because you will become that emotion" ~K. Jaquith
